OTTO Series: Italian design that redefines electronic taps

Idral OTTO Series

OTTO Series by Luca Papini for Idral: infrared electronic tap, seven finishes.

For a long time, electronic taps were associated with a purely functional idea: a technical product, designed for public washrooms, with no aesthetic ambition. The OTTO Series was created to change that perception.

Designed by Luca Papini for Idral, the OTTO Series is an infrared electronic mixer tap that brings touchless technology and designer styling together in a single product. A tap that does not disappear into a space, but gives it character, with the same design consideration as a piece of furniture, a light fitting or an interior finish. For any setting, from the home bathroom to the hotel, from the office to the professional practice.

The collaboration with Luca Papini

Luca Papini is also the designer behind Idral's LK01 electronic kitchen tap. With the OTTO Series, Papini has brought the approach that defines his work to the world of professional taps: clean lines, carefully considered proportions and attention to functional detail.

The idea behind the project is simple: an electronic tap should not look like a "technical" product, but like an interior design element that fits naturally into its surroundings, whether in a hotel bathroom, an office washroom or a private home. The result is a compact body with balanced proportions and fully integrated technology: the infrared sensor does not protrude, no light is intrusive, and nothing announces "this is an electronic tap". The tap lets its finish do the talking.

Seven finishes, endless combinations

The OTTO Series is available as standard in the chrome finish listed in the catalogue. For those seeking further customisation, six additional finishes are available on request, subject to minimum order quantities: matt black, white, gold, brushed nickel, rose gold and copper.

Each finish is designed to complement a particular palette of materials and interiors. Chrome is the versatile choice, suited to any setting. Matt black gives the tap a contemporary character, perfect alongside dark surfaces or exposed concrete. White blends into minimalist interiors. Gold, rose gold and copper respond to the growing demand for warm tones in interior design. Brushed nickel offers a balance between warmth and restraint.

For designers, as well as anyone planning their own bathroom at home, this means having a tap that truly adapts to the style of the room, without compromise.

The two-tone cover: customisation and functionality

The most distinctive feature of the OTTO Series is its removable access cover. This outer shell of the tap can be removed by hand to reach the internal components, without taking the tap off the countertop and without tools.

From a functional perspective, the removable cover makes maintenance significantly easier: the technician can access the sensor, valve and electronics in seconds.

From an aesthetic perspective, the cover opens up a unique possibility: two-tone customisation. The tap body can have one finish and the cover another. Chrome and black. Gold and white. Nickel and copper. These combinations make it possible to create a tap tailored to any interior.

How to integrate the OTTO Series into an interior design project

A designer tap only works if it fits into the overall scheme. The OTTO Series has been developed to make this easier on three levels.

Colour coordination. The finishes and two-tone option allow the tap to match the room's palette: cool tones for contemporary bathrooms, warm tones for classic interiors, white or chrome for minimalist spaces. Special finishes — matt black, gold, rose gold, copper, brushed nickel and white — are available on request, subject to minimum order quantities; chrome is the standard catalogue finish.

Proportion in relation to the basin. The OTTO Series is available in different heights to suit every type of basin: low or tall countertop basins, wall-hung basins and pedestal basins. The proportion between tap and basin is a detail that makes a real difference to the visual harmony of a space.

Discreet technology. The infrared sensor is integrated into the body, with no visible LEDs or external components. Bringing your hands towards the tap is a natural gesture, and water flows immediately. The technology is there, but it never imposes itself.

The technology behind the aesthetics

The design of the OTTO Series makes no compromises on performance. Behind its finishes and proportions is the same technology platform used in Idral's electronic taps.

The infrared sensor detects the presence of hands and starts the water flow instantly. The water stops when hands are moved away: no physical contact with the tap.

The automatic anti-legionella cycle every 24 hours is built in and factory-programmed. This periodic flush prevents bacterial growth in the pipework, without staff intervention. An important hygiene and safety feature in any setting, from a hotel bathroom to an office washroom or a home.

Power supply options include mains electricity (230 V) or battery, for maximum installation flexibility.

Where the OTTO Series belongs

The OTTO Series is a versatile tap, designed to suit a wide variety of settings. It is not a product reserved for a niche: it is a design solution for anyone who believes that even a tap can make a difference to a space.

Hotels and hospitality venues. The bathroom is one of the most important touchpoints in the guest experience, whatever the category of accommodation. The OTTO Series brings a level of design and technology that enhances any hotel bathroom, from the boutique hotel to the holiday accommodation looking to stand out.

Spas and wellness centres. A spa's atmosphere calls for aesthetic consistency in every detail. A design with no visible external components and finishes in warm tones creates continuity with the relaxing surroundings.

Offices and workplaces. In commercial and office spaces, the washroom communicates the company's positioning. A designer tap with invisible technology signals a commitment to quality.

At home. The OTTO Series is also for anyone furnishing their bathroom who wants a tap that is more than a technical accessory. An apartment, a house, a small guest bathroom: design is not a question of floor area or budget, but of choice.

The OTTO Series in Idral's design journey

The OTTO Series is not an isolated product: it is part of a design journey that Idral has undertaken with Luca Papini, which also includes the LK01 for the kitchen, an electronic tap combining touchless operation, designer styling and professional functionality in the kitchen environment.

The direction is clear: to bring the aesthetic quality of professional taps up to the standard of contemporary interior design, without compromising on technology. Taps that are not "also beautiful", but designed to be beautiful, and to work perfectly.
