Outdoor showers: how to choose the right column for pools, beach clubs and gardens

Idral outdoor shower columns in stainless steel, solar and design.
An outdoor shower is a functional element that requires a precise design choice. The installation context — a public pool, a beach club, a campsite, a resort or a private garden — determines the most suitable material, control system and configuration.
The variables to consider include exposure to salt air, chlorine and UV rays, intensity of use, availability of hot water supply, aesthetic requirements and operating budget.
In this guide we analyse the different types of Idral outdoor shower columns — in stainless steel, solar and other ultra-resistant design materials — to help designers and managers identify the most suitable solution for every context.
Stainless steel shower columns AISI 316L: maximum corrosion resistance
AISI 316L stainless steel is the reference material for the most exposed outdoor installations. It withstands salt air, chlorine, UV rays and temperature swings without alteration of finish or mechanical properties.
Idral offers two stainless steel solutions with distinct characteristics, designed for different operational needs.

Stainless steel column with timed tap
The AISI 316 stainless steel shower column with timed tap is the solution for high-traffic contexts where flow control is a priority.
The single-water timed shower tap delivers water for a preset time, then closes automatically. The mechanism is entirely hydraulic and requires no electrical power.
The structure is entirely in AISI 316 stainless steel, with floor fixing included. Designed for the intensive use of public pools, sports centres and beach clubs, where robustness and reliability are non-negotiable requirements.
Key features:
- AISI 316 stainless steel structure
- Single-water timed shower tap
- Floor fixing included
- No electrical power required
Design stainless steel column with single-lever mixer
The M84DX shower column in AISI 316L stainless steel is the solution for those seeking the same corrosion resistance combined with a minimalist aesthetic and the comfort of a single-lever mixer.
The clean lines and brushed AISI 316L stainless steel finish create an element that dialogues with the outdoor architecture, blending naturally into carefully designed spaces. The single-lever mixer gives the user full control over temperature and flow. Designed for contexts where aesthetics are integral to the project: resorts, hotels with pool areas, outdoor spas, gardens and terraces of premium residences.
Key features:
- AISI 316L stainless steel structure
- Single-lever mixer (temperature control)
- Floor fixing included
- Water supply connections G1/2" M
Solar showers: hot water without connection
Solar showers use the sun's energy to heat water stored in an internal tank. They require no gas or electricity connection for hot water production: the only connection needed is to the water mains.
This makes them particularly suited to installations where infrastructure is limited or where a dedicated energy connection is to be avoided: private gardens, poolside areas, beach clubs and campsites.
Idral offers two solar shower models, both with timed push-button control and integrated foot wash.

PHD solar shower column — mod. 09260
The 09260 solar shower column is made of ultra-resistant PHD plastic in an anthracite black finish. The internal tank stores and heats water through solar exposure. The single-lever mixer allows temperature adjustment, while the push-button control ensures automatic shut-off after 15 seconds for both shower and foot wash.
Integrated flow limiter: 8 l/min for the shower and 5 l/min for the foot wash.
Key features:
- Ultra-resistant PHD plastic structure, anthracite black
- Internal tank with solar storage and heating
- Single-lever mixer
- Timed push-button 15 sec for shower and foot wash
- Flow limiter: 8 l/min shower, 5 l/min foot wash
- Floor installation
Aluminium solar shower column — mod. 09270
The 09270 solar shower column shares the same functional logic as the 09260 — solar storage and heating, timed control, integrated foot wash — but with an aluminium structure, a lightweight and resistant material.
The push-button control ensures automatic shut-off after 15 seconds at 3 bar for both shower and foot wash. Integrated flow limiter: 8 l/min for the shower and 5 l/min for the foot wash.
Key features:
- Aluminium structure
- Internal tank with solar storage and heating
- Timed push-button 15 sec for shower and foot wash
- Flow limiter: 8 l/min shower, 5 l/min foot wash
- Floor installation
How to choose: which shower for which context
Beach club / Public pool — Aggressive environment (salt air, chlorine), intensive use. The recommended solution is the AISI 316 stainless steel column with timed tap: maximum corrosion resistance, automatic shut-off, no exposed electronics.
Resort / Hotel with pool area — Guest experience is central. The M84DX stainless steel column with single-lever mixer offers premium design and full temperature control, without sacrificing the durability of stainless steel.
Campsite / Camper area — Often limited infrastructure with intense seasonal use. The 09270 aluminium solar shower or the 09260 PHD solar shower provide hot water without gas or electricity connection. The timed control manages flow automatically.
Private garden / Poolside terrace — Less aggressive context and less intensive use, but aesthetics matter. Three options: the M84DX for a premium look, the 09260 in anthracite black for contemporary design with autonomous hot water, or the timed stainless steel column for maximum robustness.
Sports centre / Gym with outdoor area — Frequent use, mixed users, need to control flow. The timed stainless steel column is the most functional choice: automatic shut-off, resistant body.
Materials compared: stainless steel, PHD, aluminium
AISI 316L stainless steel — Maximum corrosion resistance. Ideal for marine and chlorinated environments. Non-porous surface, easy to clean. Superior longevity. Higher initial cost, offset by durability and low maintenance.
PHD plastic — Ultra-resistant, lightweight, anthracite black aesthetic finish. Used in solar showers. Not subject to corrosion. Favourable quality/price ratio for installations where stainless steel is not essential.
Aluminium — Lightweight and resistant, used in solar showers as a structural alternative. Less resistant to salt air than AISI 316L, but suited to contexts with moderate marine exposure.
Shower heads and accessories for outdoor columns
Idral offers shower heads including anti-vandal models — designed to resist tampering and misuse — and heads with integrated flow limiters to control the water flow delivered.
The foot wash is integrated in the solar showers (09260 and 09270), particularly valued at beach clubs and poolside for a quick rinse before and after bathing.
