Innovation in tap design

If we want to give a reductive and simplistic definition of a TAP, we can describe it as a device capable of interrupting, regulating or reactivating the flow of a liquid through a pipe.

But what are the expectations that this element must fulfil? ... the answer is anything but simple.

Taps have become complex, high-performance systems capable of meeting the demands of a rapidly changing global market, which forces the product to transform and adapt quickly.

The constant demands for changes and designs with increasingly complex features, coupled with the ever decreasing time available for their realisation, has revolutionised taps and fittings and consequently the way they are designed. Complex analysis and design systems, which used to be reserved for fields such as Automotive and Aeronautics, are now also strongly entering our technical departments, helping us to get to know the product even before it is born.

3D Printing

One of these technologies is 3D Printing. This is the first major design aid: it is a machine that can produce functional prototypes in various materials, so that the three-dimensional product can be viewed and tested very quickly. In fact, within 24 hours we are able to give our customers the opportunity to go from viewing the product on the computer to making a physical prototype, offering the flexibility of being able to change functional and aesthetic details during the course of production, thus saving any costs of changes to be made once production has started.

3D software

Another technology that supports our design process is 3D software that is able to simulate the reactions of components to stress: with a click of the mouse, it is possible to simulate the behaviour of a component in a working environment. The image shows, for example, the study that allowed IDRAL's technical department to optimise the pedal lever (wall version Ref. 02064) according to new aesthetic standards, while guaranteeing greater resistance than the previous one, reaching a load of 200 kg.

Render

Another tool that effectively aids our design is Photo Realistic Representation: Using advanced Renderings, executed by very powerful machines in application with latest generation software, it is possible to provide a real idea of a product that does not yet exist. This system is used to recreate settings on a large scale, such as that of the IDRAL 4All washbasin, a complete multifunctional wall, also designed in modular format for large equipped walls: by recreating the setting, it is possible to position the washbasin with the required customisations and provide an idea of the result when the installation is finished.
