Idral in Major Projects: References and Solutions for the Contract World

When designing a public washroom, a shower for a sports centre or a washbasin for a healthcare facility, the requirements are profoundly different from those of a domestic setting. These are high-traffic spaces where taps must guarantee impeccable hygiene, resistance to intensive use, measurable water savings and full compliance with accessibility regulations.

Idral has been designing and manufacturing solutions for these environments for over sixty years. From touchless electronic taps to timed models, from safety grab bars to outdoor shower columns, every product is made at our Italian headquarters and engineered to meet complex technical specifications and the highest project standards. A wealth of experience that has led us to collaborate with architects, design studios, public bodies and private clients in Italy and around the world.

How a Tap Design Project for Large Spaces Is Born

Every contract project begins with an analysis of the specific characteristics of the environment. A hospital has different sanitary requirements from a holiday village; a sports centre calls for different solutions than a museum. The choice of taps depends on variables such as usage volume, type of users, climate, local regulations, operating budget and sustainability goals.

Our approach involves direct dialogue with the designer from the earliest stages: context analysis, definition of technical requirements, proposal of customised solutions, support in drafting specifications and assistance through to installation. We don't simply supply a product: we accompany the project from drawing board to commissioning.

References: the Projects that Tell Our Story

Every reference is a story of collaboration and problem solving. We have selected three recent projects that illustrate the variety of contexts in which Idral solutions are applied: an internationally renowned cultural attraction, a municipal sports centre and a tourist village on the Tuscan coast.

Genoa Aquarium

The Genoa Aquarium is not only one of Italy's leading tourist attractions: it is a landmark for environmental education, scientific research and inclusion. With over one million visitors a year, it demands the highest standards in terms of functionality, hygiene, durability and accessibility. It was in this context that the recent refurbishment of the public washrooms took place — a project in which Idral was selected as a key partner.

For the main washrooms, custom-made Solid Surface basins were installed, paired with OTTO Series 500.12/R sensor-operated electronic taps that ensure controlled, hygienic water delivery while reducing waste and supporting the facility's environmental sustainability goals.

Special attention was paid to the accessible washroom, equipped with a wall-hung WC (mod. 10266), ergonomic basin (mod. 10191), 500.12 electronic mixer, tilting mirror (mod. 12010) and a full set of safety grab bars (mod. 12000V). All elements comply with accessibility regulations, creating a truly inclusive space consistent with the Aquarium's social mission.

The project also included a children's washroom featuring products from the Idral KIDS series: a floor-outlet ceramic WC (mod. 10306) and a folding changing table (mod. HLICX-34000), specifically designed for young children. In an educational facility like the Aquarium, a child-friendly washroom reinforces the message of independence and responsible water use.

La Goccia Swimming Pool, Borgomanero

La Goccia Municipal Swimming Pool, located near the centre of Borgomanero, is a sports facility with a 25-metre indoor pool and a 12.5-metre pool for group classes, lap swimming and aqua gym. With the goal of creating a safe, clean and low-impact environment, the municipality chose Idral 08140/E timed taps to replace the shower fixtures.

The 08140/E is a concealed tap with a chrome finish and stainless steel cover plate, highly resistant to external agents. The anti-blocking device protects the tap from misuse, while the automatic shut-off after 15 seconds — adjustable from 0 to 30 seconds — ensures no water is wasted during lathering.

Sports centres consume enormous quantities of water not only for pools but also for washrooms and showers. Choosing taps with automatic shut-off significantly reduces shower duration and, consequently, water consumption and the facility's operating costs.

Orizzonte Tourist Village, Tuscany

Located just steps from the waters of the Gulf of Follonica and surrounded by the greenery of the Tuscan Coast, the Orizzonte Tourist Village offers apartments, pools, sports courts and recreational facilities. To enhance the guest experience, management undertook a refurbishment of the communal washrooms, selecting Idral MINIMAL series timed basin taps with push-button control.

The project delivered tangible results: reduced water consumption thanks to the flow limiter and timed shut-off, improved hygiene through reduced direct contact, guest satisfaction with the modern and functional design, and lower maintenance costs thanks to the quality and reliability of Idral products. The MINIMAL series blended seamlessly with the surroundings, offering a balance of contemporary elegance and practicality.

Sectors: Hospitality, Healthcare, Transport, Education, Sport

The three references above are just a sample of the variety of contexts in which Idral operates. Our range covers every sector of the contract world: from high-end hospitality to healthcare, from transport infrastructure to education, from sport and leisure to commercial spaces.

In each sector, requirements change radically. A five-star hotel calls for designer electronic taps like the OTTO Series; a hospital needs clinical levers and thermostatic mixers with a 38°C safety stop; a school requires vandal-proof timed taps that are safe for children; a public swimming pool demands outdoor shower columns in AISI 316L stainless steel capable of withstanding chlorine and salt air. Idral meets each of these needs with dedicated, tested and certified solutions.

Selection Criteria: Hygiene, Savings, Durability, Accessibility

When choosing taps for a contract project, four criteria guide every decision. Hygiene comes first: touchless technology and timed taps eliminate direct contact, reducing the transmission of germs and bacteria. In healthcare settings, this is not an option but a requirement.

Water savings is the second pillar. Timed and electronic taps with programmable flow reduce water consumption by up to 70% compared with a traditional tap. In facilities with thousands of daily uses, this translates into tangible financial and environmental savings.

Durability is the third: materials such as chrome-plated brass and AISI 316L stainless steel ensure resistance to intensive use, corrosion and chemical agents. The robustness of Idral products reduces maintenance costs and replacement frequency.

Finally, accessibility: certified grab bars, shower seats, ergonomic basins and sensor-operated taps enable people with reduced mobility, the elderly and children to use facilities independently and safely. Regulatory compliance is a starting point, not a finish line.

From Design to Installation: How We Work with Architects and Studios

Working with Idral means having a technical partner available at every stage of the project. Our team supports architects and designers from defining specifications to selecting models, from verifying system compatibility to custom product configuration.

We provide complete technical documentation — product datasheets, CAD drawings, certifications — and support in drafting specifications. For the most complex projects, we offer the possibility of creating bespoke solutions, such as the Solid Surface basins installed at the Genoa Aquarium. An approach that reduces design time and minimises the risk of errors on site.

Materials and Technologies for the Contract Sector

The quality of a contract project is also measured by the choice of materials. Idral uses chrome-plated brass for indoor taps, AISI 316L stainless steel for outdoor and aggressive environments, and Solid Surface for basins and integrated surfaces. Each material is selected based on the application context, expected durability and hygiene requirements.

On the technology front, the contract range includes infrared sensors for touchless delivery, TMV3 thermostatic cartridges with a 38°C safety stop to prevent scalding, automatic 24-hour anti-Legionella cycles, adjustable timers and anti-blocking devices. Proven technologies across thousands of installations, ensuring reliability and consistent performance over time.
