What exactly is a thermostatic mixer and how does it work compared to a traditional mixer?
"The task of the thermostatic mixer is to keep the water temperature stable, regardless of pressure or flow rate variations in the water mains. Unlike traditional mixers, where you have to manually adjust the temperature each time, the thermostatic mixer does everything automatically thanks to an internal thermostatic valve. This guarantees maximum comfort and above all safety, because it prevents sudden scalds in the event of pressure drops or interruptions to the cold water supply."
Are there Idral models specifically designed for high-traffic environments or healthcare facilities?
"Absolutely. At Idral we offer a wide and versatile range designed to meet installation needs even in the most demanding contexts, such as sanitary facilities and high traffic environments. By 'high traffic' we mean those places where the use of devices is frequent and continuous over time, such as hospitals, schools, gyms, campsites or large accommodation facilities. "The TERMO-TEMPO cartridge is an innovation developed by our technical team: for the first time, we have succeeded in integrating both the thermostatic and timed function in a single compact cartridge. This means that the same device automatically regulates the water temperature and limits the duration of the flow. The advantage is twofold: on the one hand, maximum safety is guaranteed, avoiding scalding; on the other hand, consumption is optimised, reducing waste."
What are the main practical advantages of a compact solution like this for basin and shower, compared to a system with separate devices?
"One of the main advantages of this compact solution is the ease of installation: having only one integrated component instead of two separate ones reduces installation time and costs. In addition, the design is cleaner and more essential, making it easier to fit into modern architectural contexts. From an operational point of view, maintenance is easier and costs potentially lower, as the system is less complex and more robust."
How much can you save in terms of water and energy consumption with an Idral thermostatic mixer?
"On average, significant water and energy savings can be achieved. According to studies conducted by Idral on the use of timed taps, savings can be up to 70% compared to traditional mixers, thanks to the precise control of the flow and the reduction of waste. When the timed function is combined with the thermostatic function, efficiency is also amplified in energy terms: less water used means less energy used to heat it. In projects where tens or hundreds of taps are installed, such as in sports centres, the impact on consumption also becomes very significant in economic terms."
From a design point of view, how can an architect integrate these taps into the concept of a modern, sustainable bathroom?

How do you handle the maintenance of thermostatic mixers and what is their average lifetime?
"As far as routine cartridge maintenance is concerned, we recommend simple operations that can be carried out quickly: washing under running water, removing any impurities from the filters and lubricating the external seals. It is essential to use only silicone oil to ensure maximum compatibility with the materials and preserve the product's durability."
Can you tell us some examples of projects in which Idral taps have been installed and which highlight their effectiveness and versatility?
"Certainly.
A significant example is Elamus Spa, in Estonia, where Idral timed thermostatic mixers were installed for the showers. In this project, the aim was to offer a safe and comfortable user experience in a high-flow context, while maintaining a refined aesthetic.
A second interesting case is the L'Angioletto kindergarten in Turin, where progressive thermostatic taps for washbasins were chosen. In this educational context, the solution demonstrated its effectiveness in combining safety for children and ease of use, thus confirming the great versatility of the technology even in spaces with specific needs."
